PCB of TOF sensor unit
The Time-of-Flight single sensor unit - with the tiny dimensions of LxW=10x17mm - measures distances to a target up to 2m. The sensor board needs to be configurated with an additional controller unit board in order to transfer proximity data and define the working mode. Both PCBs (sensor board and controller unit) are linked together by default but could separated into 2 boards. The connection afterwards is done with a flat-ribbon-cable of up to 50cm. There are 2 possible working modes.

Remote mode:
The controller unit transmitts distance values of a recognized object via serial interface to a master periphery (e.g. PC). The periphery then controlls optionally the output on the controller unit or shows proximity informations on a display.

Autonomous mode:
The controller unit sets/resets an output, if the objects' distance reaches a preset limit. The output is able to turn a DC motor or to switch a relay.

With the initial configuration the minimum and maximum distance ranges are adjusted (by potis or remote controlled), the data format is set and the behaviour of the output pin (impuls or continuous) is chosen. A LED indicates specific error states.
As an application the unit could be used for counting objects or recognition of objects within a defined range as well as a level meter.
